Detention FAQ's

How can an inmate become a "trusty" at the Pickens County Law Enforcement Center? We only accept inmates as trusties from the Pickens County Prison.  If the inmate requests to be transferred to this facility, he must write the Jail Administrator after he has received clearance from the Warden at the Pickens County Prison.
Which inmates do you hold at the Pickens County Detention Center? We hold inmates who are legally under arrest and for whom we have a custody order form from Central, Clemson, Clemson University, Easley, Liberty, and Pickens Police Departments.  We also hold inmates arrested by the South Carolina Highway Patrol, SLED, SC Department of Natural Resources, and the State Grand Jury.
When does the Magistrate set bond for inmates? Magistrates set bonds at 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM seven (7) days a week.  Arraigned inmates who are  eligible for release are released at these times also.
If the Detention Center is holding an inmate for a police department, will the county magistrate release the inmate? No.  If an inmate has been charged by a city, the inmate must be transported back to the office of the City Recorder and complete his/her paperwork there.  This also ensures that the charging department's Victim Advocate notifies the victim of the inmate's release.
When can inmates use the telephone? Inmates have access to a telephone in their cellblock.  These telephones are activated around 7:30 AM each day and remain active until approximately 11:00 PM each night.  All of the telephones are "collect only", meaning that the party receiving the call must accept the charges before the call is connected.
What if there is a "collect call block" on the telephone the inmate is wishing to call? The Detention Center has no authority over outside telephone lines.  If the inmate needs to call someone with a "block", that person must have the "block" removed to allow any collect calls to go through.
What is the mailing address of the inmates housed at the Pickens County Detention Center? Address the envelope as follows:

Each Sunday evening, each inmate is give a "visitation slip" requesting the time for a visit.  One-hour time slots are given on a first-come, first-serve basis.  It is up to the inmate to contact his visitors and tell them the time slot of his visitation period.  Up to three (3) persons may visit an inmate at one time.  ALL VISITORS MUST PRESENT A PHOTO ID CARD (DRIVERS LICENSE OR ID CARD), AND ARE SUBJECT TO SEARCH. The ID cards are kept by the Detention Officer until the visitation has concluded.
